Alphaman – The New Beginning

AlphaMan is a detailed and intense Roguelike game that differs from many of its ASCII-graphics peers in numerous ways. First of all the setting is in the future in a post-apocalyptic setting unlike the fantasy setting of most games. Also it features some unique gameplay elements, like how for each step you take on the world map, you enter a smaller more “zoomed in” map to play through. This adds some unexpected variety, but it can make it seem to take an eternity to progress a short distance on the greater map. Like most Roguelikes this game seems to feature lots of different items, weapons, monsters, etc, all arranged in random designs. Of course, it also features a ton of keyboard shortcuts to try to remember (or press ‘?’ to see them). Overall an interesting and unique entry into the crowded field of textmode Roguelike games.
