Azalta: Cult of the Raven is a single-player role-playing game. It was released as shareware to promote both the Azalta game development product, ‘Azalta Creator’, and the game Azalta Traveller which is the fully registered version of the game in which players can travel to other worlds.
At the start of the game the player creates and names a group of four characters choosing the race, class and sex of each. Once this is done the game begins with the characters at the gates of Haana, a small town. The group enters the town, purchases supplies and equipment before setting off on their adventure to explore dungeons, fight monsters etc as they investigate the source of evil in the land, could it be that ‘The Cult of the Raven’ has reformed?
Azalta is a deep PC overheard party-based RPG with a high barrier of entry. Although it seems decent, the high entry barrier may put off all except the hardest of hard-core players. There are a lot of keyboard commands to memorize. Thankfully there is an in-game quick key reference (press F10) but unfortunately it doesn’t list all of the keys. Check the included docs for a full list. Anyways, you form your party of four characters, each of whom you must control individually, switching between them using the F1-F4 keys. You buy weapons and armor, then venture out to kill things. The video I saw on YouTube shows the player getting demolished in their first battle. The game look passable and has some music, but it’s gameplay feels a bit dated. Still, one for hard-core RPG fans to check out.
