The third installment of Trine stars yet again Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight and Zoya the Thief. The three heroes have grown weary of the magical artifact called Trine interrupting their lives time after time and in consensus they attempt to give back the skills it has granted to them. Their attempt goes awry and as a result the artifact shatters into pieces and an evil sorcerer is breaks free. So begins the fairy-tale journey of the three heroes.
The game includes physics-based puzzles, platforming and fights. The player takes control of the three heroes, which can be changed from one to another at any time during the game, excluding the tutorial levels. Amadeus has an ability to conjure boxes and move objects. Pontius is a fighter. Zoya brings her bow and grappling hook into the action. The game can be played with up to three players locally or online. Unlike the previous Trine games, the third installment is played in a full 3D-environment.
